| | How many times have you held a pair of tens in blackjack, only to
have the dealer draw a four-card 21? Or stick with a 19 and the dealer
shows 20? Now there's a way to cash in when you lose the hands you're not
supposed to.
Bad Beat Blackjack is a side bet for standard blackjack
games. The bet wins if you stand on an initial hand of 19 or 20 but lose
to the dealer.
How To Play
- Like all blackjack side bets, each player simply places a wager in an
additional betting circle near the main wager.
- If the player stands on an initial 19 or 20 and his hand loses to the dealer, he wins
the bet. He'll win 20-to-1 on the Bad
Beat wager if he lost with a two-card 19, and 30-to-1 if he lost with a
two-card 20. If he pushes the dealer, the Bad Beat wager wins
5-to-1. If he pushes with a natural 21 (blackjack), he wins 8-to-1.
If the player doesn't stand on an initial 19 through 21, or wins with those
hands, the Bad Beat wager loses.
- In another version, if the player stands on an initial 19 or 20 and her
hand loses to the dealer, she still wins, but wins 15-to-1 on the Bad Beat
wager if she lost with a two-card 19 and 25-to-1 if she lost with a two-card
20. If she pushes the dealer, the Bad Beat wager wins 5-to-1,
except if she pushes with a natural 21 (blackjack) when she wins 8-to-1.
Unlike the previous version, if the player wins her blackjack bet with an
initial 19, 20, or 21, she gets her Bad Beat wager back.
In this version,
the Bad Beat wager loses only when the player did not stand on an
initial 19 through 21 -- so when she starts with a good hand, she's a
guaranteed winner!
Key Benefits and Facts
- In a
6-deck game where the dealer stands on soft 17, the house edge for both
version of the bet is just over 5%.
- Many other versions have been developed with different features and
awards, with corresponding house edges ranging from 1.5% to over 15%.
Unlike some other propositions, it is very easy to modify the awards in
Bad Beat Blackjack to meet a desired house edge.
- Bad Beat Blackjack is patent-pending.
